On 17 April 2026 the Responsible Minerals Initiative released CMRT 6.6, EMRT 2.11 and AMRT 1.31 together (RMI MRT Introduction). This is the set to use for new supplier rounds in the current reporting year. Your due diligence duties did not change with the release. What changed is the file you send, the product fields on the CMRT, the geography labels, and the smelter lists embedded in each template.

CMRT 6.6 is the first update since CMRT 6.5 (25 April 2025). The older 6.x history still matters for reading legacy files. It is no longer the current release. See the CMRT 6.5 version history for what changed up to 6.5.
Download the files from the RMI site at the start of each cycle: CMRT, EMRT, AMRT. Confirm the release note on the RMI MRT Introduction. Do not reuse a saved copy from last year. An old file carries an old smelter list, and the Checker tab treats valid smelters as invalid for no sourcing reason.
Three things to be clear about
1. This is not a new methodology
No new minerals landed on the CMRT. It is still 3TG: tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold. EMRT still covers the extended set used for battery and energy-transition minerals (including cobalt, natural mica, copper, natural graphite, lithium and nickel). No regulation names a CMRT version number. Customers, auditors and your own validation do. That is why the file version matters in practice even when the law does not.
2. The two new CMRT product fields are the only process change that hurts if you ignore them
The Product List now has Requester Product Number and Requester Product Name.
The failure mode these fields are meant to cut is familiar. The supplier completes the declaration against its own part numbers. Your team receives a technically complete CMRT that cannot answer which of your products it covers. Mapping then happens weeks later, by hand, against the bill of materials.
Requester-side identifiers move that mapping into the declaration. The useful habit is to put your numbers on the request before it goes out, not leave the fields blank and hope the supplier invents the right mapping.

3. Version drift still costs more than the update itself
Mixed versions across a supply base produce mismatched smelter IDs and Checker failures that look like sourcing problems and are often just age. Customers increasingly reject declarations that are not on the current set.
RMI has also noted that the smelter lookup list inside a released template is fixed at release and can lag the live Standard Smelter List. Where a smelter is missing from the embedded list, use the “Smelter not listed” path and keep a record of why.
If you have suppliers in China after the 5 August 2026 RBA designation, the template version is not the hard part. The hard part is which engagement routes still work. On 19 August 2026 RMI also published versions of each MRT without RMI logos and branding. They are functionally identical to the April releases and sit on the same template pages (RMI MRT Introduction; downloads via CMRT, EMRT, AMRT).
What to do this cycle
- Download CMRT 6.6, EMRT 2.11 and AMRT 1.31 from RMI. Start from those files. Or take them together from the RMI Templates Guide.
- Update the version named in your supplier instructions and outreach email.
- Decide your acceptance policy in writing: require 6.6 for new CMRT filings, or accept 6.5 for a short transition and then cut off. State the date. Do not leave it implicit.
- Pre-fill Requester Product Number and Requester Product Name on outbound CMRT requests where you already know the mapping.
- Update any internal country or region mappings to the new ISO short names so roll-ups do not break on labels.
- Re-check open smelter IDs against the lists in the new templates before you chase suppliers for “invalid” rows that are only outdated references.

What you end up with
A current template set for the reporting year, with product mapping that can survive a customer question about which SKU a declaration covers, and a smelter list that matches what RMI published in April 2026.
The work is still the same work: reasonable inquiry, OECD-aligned due diligence, and a record of what you asked and what came back. The April release does not rewrite that. It removes a few avoidable sources of rework.

Can suppliers still submit CMRT 6.5?
They can, and many will. The file remains readable. Smelter references may fail validation against the newer lists, and some customers will reject anything below 6.6. Decide your cut-off date and put it in the request.
